i remember that from living in san diego. we'd go watch the mountsides/hillsides just flame and flame....with binoculars you could watch people on the roof of their houses wit hoses....trying to stop mother nature and a naturally arid climate.

Yup. I always get happy when some multi-million dollar home in an inappropriate location goes up in flames.
Strange thing is it's just weather unless it hits you directly, even if it's only a few miles away. You look for the freeway closures, check out the cool sunsets, and forget about it.
